About Us

The Baxter Day Service Center had its start in 1971. With virtually no resources or options for developmentally disabled people in the community of Mountain Home, the solution to a definite need slowly became a reality with six clients and the basement of the United Methodist Church. Since that time, Baxter Day Service Center has grown in a service operation on six acres in the heart of Mountain Home, Arkansas.  Baxter Day Service Center now consists of a main office/adult development facility of 4,800 square feet and a warehouse of 33,000 square feet where most work activities take place.

Baxter Day Service Center is a non-profit corporation, financially supported by the Arkansas Department of Human Services -- DDS, Medicaid, contributions and bequests/wills.  All Contributions are tax deductible and will help to provide quality programs and services to the handicapped.

Baxter Day Service Center is under the jurisdiction of an independent Board of Directors made up of local business people and other qualified individuals, who exercise supervision and control of all Center policies.

Our Philosophy
The purpose of Baxter Day Service Center is to provide developmentally disabled individuals with experiences which will enable them to achieve their maximum mental and physical ability along with obtaining their highest degree of independence.

Our Mission

Realizing individual needs of the developmentally disabled person are basic to the philosophy of Baxter Day Service Center. These steps are taken to meet these individual needs:

  • A support team will be provided by the Center to assess and determine needs with the individual, who will then be encouraged to achieve their maximum potential regardless of their mental ability, educational achievement, economic or ethnic background.
  • Other support services such as transportation, case management, counseling, etc. will be provided to assist the individual in meeting their needs in the manner most suitable for them as an individual striving to become more integrated into the community.
